Today was Picnic Day, apparently a tradition at UC Davis whereby alumni, family, random public all swarm the town and campus. There are demos and activities on campus including cooking, animals, sports, etc. Complete madhouse. Traditionally, it pours on Picnic Day. Today was absolutely gorgeous.
Of course, in my inability to say no to anyone, I volunteered to work Picnic Day. We opened up our operatory to the public and put out displays of pictures, instruments, skulls, radiographs, and more. There were quite a lot of visitors, and they were particularly interested in the picture of the last tiger we worked on.
And there were kittens. One of the girls fostering the dumpster kittens brought them to work with her. I wish I had a picture of those sweet little babies. Well, OK, one was sweet, the other was...vocal. The little girl is a dilute tortie, dainty, and already purrs like a Porsche. The orange and white boy is half again her size and screams whenever he is not eating or sleeping. He does love to eat, though, and it is so cute to watch his little tail twitch while he nursed.
Today was a good day, exercise-wise. I jogged and walked to the hospital this morning, later biked to and from the hospital. I did wimp out and bum a ride from a student on the way home. In my defense, I decided to help set up for Picnic Day and was running late for my massage appointment.
Did I mention my massage? Very relaxing...
